How do I manage the address templates and custom fields?

The address templates are set on a per-menu item basis and allow for the control of the formatting of each directory entry and map-marker popup window.

The default format is as follows:

{title}{distance}{address}[br]{address2}[br] {city}, {state} {postalcode}[br]{phone}[br]{link}[br]{description}[br]{taglist}

Each field is defined as follows:

  • {title} - This is the title field, and is wrapped in an <h2> tag.  It is optionally hyperlinked to the item's detail page.  Prior to version 1.89, title was output as part of the Joomla template code and it's position could not be managed.  If the title is not displaying after an upgrade, you most likely do not have {title} in your address template.
  • {distance} - This is the description of the distance this entry is from the performed search.
  • {address}{address2}{city}{state}{postalcode}{phone} - These are all dynamically replaced by the corresponding field in the database.  No special formatting is applied.  Each is wrapped in a span tag for individual styling as follows: <span class="line_item {fieldname}"></span>.
  • {link} - This is the automatically hyperlinked "link" field.  If you would like to use another field as the "hypertext" of the link you can format the link tag as follows: {link {title} /link}.  All custom fields of type "link" can be used in this way.  You can also include custom text in this field as in {link Click Here! /link}.
  • {description} - This is the full text of the description, as entered in the WYSIWYG editor in the back-end.
  • {taglist} - This is a comma-separated list of tags for this item.  The taglist field will not be initialized unless "Show Tag List" is also selected.  This is a two-part option because the query (enabled by the "Show Tag List" drop-down) is computationally expensive.
For custom fields, the template tag will be generated and available in the list of custom fields.

The Map Address template works just as any other address template, and allows for the control of item format in the marker popup window.

Also, under the Parameters icon (or Configuration in Joomla 1.6) is an Admin Item Template setting that allows for the control of the formatting in the administrator list.
